Wild about Cornish: Our Wetlands at CREA

April 15, 2023 @ 9:30 am - 12:00 pm

Our Wetlands at CREA: A Critical Habitat & Water Recharge System for Cornish

Laura Deming, MS will be our guide. She is a wildlife biologist at Moosewood Ecological in Chesterfield NH, a PhD candidate in Environmental Studies and an adjunct instructor at Antioch University, Keene NH, and formerly a sr. biologist at the NH Audubon Society. She has coordinated field surveys for vernal pool species, birds, bats, turtles, snakes, and fish and has significant experience working with state, federal and town agencies and commissions. We’ll walk the wetlands at CREA and conclude with a summary discussion about our questions and observations:

  • What are wetlands and prime wetlands—their ecological values and vulnerabilities
  • How biodiverse a wildlife ecology do the CREA wetlands support; why is this important?
  • What are CREA’s current recreational, educational, mowing and field uses?
  • How do we manage this critical natural resource going forward?
